Ukrainians living legally in Germany will be able to stay in the country, even despite Ukraine’s efforts to repatriate them.
“The legal situation is such that residency here is not in question. Employment also leads to security of residence,” he said.
The Chancellor urged Ukrainians in Germany to find employment.
“We hope that those who have come from Ukraine, as soon as they are able to work, will work. It is worth noting that many are already doing so, but there are still several hundred thousand who are urgently needed in the labor market,” he said.
Scholz emphasized the connection between employment and permanent residence.
“In Germany, anyone who works here and does not incur debts is almost certain that they will be able to stay here,” the Chancellor said.
“The guarantee of residency also arises thanks to employment,” he added.
