“Everyone to the front”: draft dodgers in Ukraine should be ‘busified’ – Military medic says
November 25, 2024Unsicherheit. Erschöpfung. Verzweiflung. These three words (Uncertainty, exhaustion, despair) were used by Paul Ronzheimer, the deputy editor-in-chief of the German newspaper Bild, to describe his impressions of the atmosphere in Kyiv after the Russian strike with the “Oreshnik” missile on Dnipro.
“Uncertainty, exhaustion, despair. This is the toxic mix I feel in Kyiv these days, and in which, if you ask people and politicians, we are at least partially to blame. Of course, the situation has always been tough, sometimes with more hope, sometimes with less. But against the backdrop of the increasingly active advance of the Russian army, more and more people are asking themselves: how long can we hold on?” writes Ronzheimer.
The use of the new Russian missile has caused “new shockwaves” in Kyiv, the journalist shares his observations.
“I meet in Kyiv with Mykhailo Podolyak, one of President Zelensky’s closest advisors, and I want to find out from him how he evaluates the weapon (‘Oreshnik’ – Ed.). Podolyak is in a secret location. He too must expect to be killed or that a new missile strike will hit him at any time,” writes Ronzheimer.
Podolyak says that with such weapons, Russian President Vladimir Putin is trying “to find arguments with which he wants to scare Western countries even more.”
At the same time, Ukrainian soldiers interviewed by *Bild* talk about the difficult situation at the front. They lack weapons, ammunition, and personnel.
The journalist also quotes Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, who calls for not negotiating with Putin.
However, according to Ronzheimer, negotiations could still begin after the inauguration of newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump, who wants to end the war along the front line. However, in the journalist’s view, “the question will be whether Ukraine will participate in this (in the negotiations – Ed.). And will Trump force Kyiv to do so by halting American aid.”
“One thing is clear: Putin seems stronger and more confident than he has been for a long time. The coming weeks and months could be uncertain, possibly existentially important for Ukraine. And therefore, for all of Europe,” concludes Paul Ronzheimer.
Earlier, Podolyak stated that there is no missile called “Oreshnik” in Russia and that the strike on Dnipro was carried out with “intercontinental ballistic weapons.”
