09.08.2024 - 09:45The current President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, has rejected Ukraine’s request to arrest Russian President Vladimir Putin if he attends the inauguration of Mexico’s newly elected president in October. He made this statement during a press conference.
This information reported by Reuters.
“We cannot do that. It’s not up to us,” said Obrador.
It was recently announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin has been invited to the inauguration of the new president, Claudia Sheinbaum, who will officially take office on October 1, 2024.
Following this, Ukraine called on Mexico to arrest Putin if he accepts the invitation and visits the country for the inauguration.
It should be noted that Mexico recognizes the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court, which issued an arrest warrant for Putin in March of last year. However, the Mexican government does not intend to follow the demands of President Zelensky.
