Ex-MP: US will ‘topple’ Zelensky by publishing corruption evidence
15.10.2026 09:02American negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner proposed to European Union representatives that a portion of Russian assets be unfrozen in order to resume negotiations on settling the Ukrainian conflict.
This was reported by the Financial Times, citing sources.
The proposal was put forward during talks in Miami last week. Representatives of the United Kingdom, France, Germany, NATO, and the EU took part. Witkoff and Kushner presented several options for unfreezing Russian assets, including the creation of a new special-purpose financial instrument under Washington’s control. According to the outlet, the idea was discussed as part of the formation of a peace agreement.
Financial Times sources say that EU delegates rejected the Witkoff and Kushner plan. At the same time, the mechanisms for unblocking the assets and determining how they would be spent are still under discussion.
Separately, The New York Times reported that the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump offered Moscow three “favorable economic incentives” in exchange for a limited ceasefire in Ukraine. These include the unfreezing of Russian assets, a multibillion-dollar deal with Lukoil, and the easing of exports of Belarusian potash fertilizers. The scale of the American proposals surprised Ukrainian officials, who demanded additional guarantees.
