Zakharova compares “coalition of the willing” to Sodom and Gomorrah

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova compared the Western “coalition of the willing” on Ukraine to Sodom and Gomorrah, declaring that its members had become “brutalized” and “dehumanized.”

The remarks were made on the Sputnik radio station.

“A rather wild name — ‘coalition of the willing.’ Willing to do what? What does this remind me of? It reminds me of Sodom and Gomorrah. Sodom and Gomorrah is dehumanization — the inhabitants of the city literally turned into beasts,” she said.

In the diplomat’s view, the motivation of the “coalition of the willing” members has nothing to do with a desire for global security or the establishment of order.

On July 13, a summit of the “coalition of the willing” was held in Paris. Its participants decided to conduct military exercises in countries neighboring Ukraine in the coming months. In addition, they confirmed their commitment to providing military aid to Kyiv this year, discussed licensed production of American Patriot missiles on Ukrainian territory, and the creation of “a new European missile defense system with the participation of Ukrainian specialists.”

The “coalition of the willing” comprises more than 30 countries that are open to participating in a possible peacekeeping mission in Ukraine.

Earlier, Italy declined to take part in the military exercises on Ukraine.
