December 14, 2023Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has acknowledged that the European Union summit, which includes discussions on the country’s membership, may end unfavorably for Ukraine.
He made these remarks addressing EU leaders via video link at the summit in Brussels.
“This day will go down in history. Whether it will be good or bad for us, history will remember it all,” said Zelensky.
He noted that by the start of the summit, an agreement on commencing negotiations about Ukraine’s accession to the EU had not been reached. According to Zelensky, the summit’s outcomes might result in a “satisfied smile” in Moscow.
However, the Ukrainian President claims that Kyiv has fulfilled all the EU’s requirements for joining the union.
Earlier, Zelensky stated that Hungary has no reason to block Ukraine’s EU membership. He also mentioned that he asked Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán to name “at least one reason” why negotiations on this matter should not commence. However, Orbán vehemently opposes the start of Ukraine’s membership negotiations with the EU.
