December 13, 2023Zelensky stated that without additional assistance, the war in Ukraine will become ‘much more brutal’ – WP
December 13, 2023President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky informed American senators that Ukraine “will be calling men over 45 into the army”.
This information reported according to Bloomberg.
“Zelensky, who enjoyed applause during his first visit to Capitol Hill a year ago, encountered a cooler reception in closed-door meetings with lawmakers on Tuesday. In December of last year, he declared at a jubilant joint session of Congress that ‘Ukraine is alive and well.’ This time, he told legislators that his country would be drafting men over 45 and might have to resort to guerrilla warfare as aid from the U.S. and their European allies becomes increasingly scant,” the publication wrote.
However, it’s not entirely clear what is meant. In Ukraine, men up to 60 years old have been subject to mobilization since the start of the war. Presumably, Volodymyr Zelensky meant that Ukraine might be forced to recruit older individuals into the army to fill personnel gaps.
It has been widely discussed in Ukraine for some time that there is a significant proportion of individuals aged 40-50 among those mobilized. Earlier reports indicated that the average age of soldiers in some Ukrainian army brigades is 54, as mentioned by Sergei Leshchenko, an advisor to the head of the Presidential Office.
