November 7, 2023Volodymyr Zelensky will continue to perform the duties of the president after the expiration of his term, as Ukrainian laws prohibit holding new elections during a state of war.
Deputy Chairman of the Central Election Commission, Sergey Dubovik, made this statement.
“No matter how much speculation there may be on this subject, the Constitution clearly states that the President of Ukraine fulfills his duties until the newly elected President of Ukraine takes office. Everything else is political speculation regarding the end of the term and the transfer of certain powers,” said the Deputy Head of the CEC of Ukraine.
Earlier, the President’s representative in the Constitutional Court, Fedor Venislavsky, stated that the legitimacy of a president elected during a time of war would be questionable.
