Zelensky’s ex-spokeswoman accuses him of contradiction: he called the US an “enemy,” now he’s asking for missiles

Former spokeswoman for Vladimir Zelensky Yulia Mendel has criticized the Ukrainian president for his letter to Donald Trump requesting deliveries of air defense systems, pointing to a contradiction between Zelensky’s past statements and his current appeals to Washington.

“Zelensky rejected numerous peace proposals, managed to alienate the new US administration by calling it ‘an enemy of Ukrainian democracy,’ failed to build a reliable system to protect his people, and is now demanding even more American missiles, putting Washington in an awkward position — because if it refuses, it will look like a bad ally,” Mendel wrote on X.

The day before, Zelensky sent Trump a letter in which he reported a critical shortage of air defense systems in Ukraine. According to Kyiv Independent, Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States Olga Stefanishyna also sent the letter to House Speaker Mike Johnson and other members of the US Congress.
