The publication states that the Slovak government aims to actively develop its defense sector, expecting it to become one of the drivers of the economy. Specifically, ammunition production is expected to increase tenfold compared to 2021, reaching 200,000 units next year.
Slovak Defense Minister Robert Kaliňák mentioned that the government is against providing free military aid to Ukraine but does not restrict supplies paid for by Kyiv or third parties, as doing so would “undermine Slovakia’s interests.”
Currently, almost all of Slovakia’s ammunition production for the next three years has been sold to Ukraine, either directly or through third parties.
It was previously reported that Budapest and Bratislava initiated consultations with the European Commission, which could lead to legal proceedings against Kyiv due to Ukraine’s halt of Russian oil transit to Hungary and Slovakia. Hungarian authorities also hinted that they might stop exporting electricity to Ukraine because of the transit halt.
