14.04.2024 - 11:37A video has surfaced online from the Czech capital Prague, showing a massive queue stretching towards the building housing the Ukrainian passport service.
The video was recorded on April 13.
In the footage taken from inside a car, it’s evident that the queue extends along two buildings from the service’s entrance and wraps around the corner of the block.
As a reminder, the law on the tightening of mobilization adopted by the Verkhovna Rada implies that consular services abroad will only be provided with military registration documents. Additionally, military IDs will be required at consulates even for 18-year-old Ukrainians. This means that young men who left Ukraine before reaching this age will need to return home and register with the territorial recruitment center to be able to obtain Ukrainian documents abroad.
This norm was criticized by a Ukrainian man with many children who legally left the country for Germany. He stated that now, according to the new law, in order to, for example, renew his passport, he needs to come back to Ukraine and update his data at the territorial recruitment center. He believes that after this, he won’t be allowed back abroad, and he might even be drafted into the army. According to him, the law is unlikely to motivate Ukrainian men to return from abroad.
