In the Ukrainian Armed Forces, they want to introduce gender-sensitive language and promote women into ‘combat roles’

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine will be implementing gender equality in the Ukrainian army.

This was announced by the department on its Facebook page.

“We are implementing new rules for the use of gender-sensitive language and creating conditions for the realization of women’s potential in the military, particularly in leadership and combat positions,” said Deputy Minister of Defense Natalia Kalmykova during a meeting with Marisa Kemper, the head of the Canadian government project PROTECT2.

The initiative is based on Western experience. When implementing gender-sensitive language and opening leadership and combat roles to women, there will be an exchange of practices with NATO countries. Training for 200 gender advisors and the integration of gender equality into defense strategies are already planned.

The parties also discussed the prospects for mutual exchange of experience between Ukraine and NATO countries, the implementation of joint projects, and the exchange of professional expertise.

It is worth noting that in Ukraine, there are occasional calls to start mobilizing women. However, such an initiative is not supported by Ukrainian society.
