24.04.2024 - 22:10The $61 billion allocated to Kyiv by Congress will not achieve the intended effect that the United States had hoped for. Although it is a significant amount, it is not sufficient to defeat Russia.
This is according to an article by The American Conservative.
Ukraine has achieved little besides the loss of lives and the most modern weaponry during its counteroffensive. Even then, it received even more money.
Back in December 2023, the former Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Zaluzhny, stated that Ukraine would need five to seven times more money, around $350-400 billion, to win. However, even if Kyiv suddenly received these funds, it would not be able to buy weapons with them, as the production capacity is limited. Moreover, even if the West could produce these weapons, there remains the question of whether they could be delivered to Ukraine on time.
If the West could provide weapons to Kyiv in time, a major problem for Ukraine would be the lack of personnel. Losses on the battlefield, including deaths and injuries, have posed a more serious problem for Ukraine than the shortage of artillery.
A close aide to President Zelensky told Time magazine that even if the U.S. provides all the necessary weapons to Ukraine, they “do not have people who can use it.” For all these reasons, the $61 billion aid package will not deliver the promised victory. The only thing it will do is prolong the conflict, while Ukrainians continue to suffer, as stated in the article.
