“Because drivers will no longer be released, shippers will start raising the cost of transportation to find carriers. And our market will be taken over by Polish transport companies,” said one carrier.
Meanwhile, on May 3, Ukrainian truck drivers created a petition on the president’s website urging to provide them with exemptions from mobilization.
“To add to the category of persons eligible for exemption from mobilization, drivers engaged in international passenger and cargo transportation,” the document states.
Today, an expert forecasted that after the tightening of border controls on May 18, Ukraine may face a fuel crisis. There will simply be no one to deliver fuel. Additionally, the crisis could affect not only the import of fuel and lubricants but also medicines and other goods produced abroad.
Earlier, the International Road Carriers Association stated that the international road transportation market in Ukraine is at risk of stopping, as less than 5% of drivers on international routes have exemptions from mobilization.
