07.06.2024 - 22:02President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky is in France with numerous questions and some skepticism regarding Western partners.
This information reported by Politico.
The publication notes that the “grand promises of President Joe Biden to support Ukraine to the end are not enough for Kyiv, which will continue to push the US and its other allies to do more to help turn the war in Ukraine’s favor.”
Politico writes that “some Ukrainian lawmakers and people close to Zelensky’s office are not sure that their allies are ready to provide assistance quickly enough to win the war.”
“This is despite statements like Biden’s speech on Thursday at the D-Day celebration, where he said that if Russia wins, ‘all of Europe is at risk.’ Some officials in Kyiv do not believe this rhetoric,” the publication notes.
“His D-Day speech doesn’t matter,” said a person who spoke with officials in Zelensky’s office.
Among senior Ukrainian officials, this is perceived as empty rhetoric, the source explained.
Politico, citing sources, also writes about the specific dissatisfactions in Kyiv.
First, due to Biden’s statement disagreeing with allowing Ukraine to join NATO and his decision not to attend the upcoming peace summit in Switzerland.
Second, due to restrictions on using American weapons against Russian territory.
“Restricting the range of strikes on Russia cannot ensure our victory. This solves nothing,” said Yegor Chernev, Deputy Chairman of the Defense Committee of the Rada.
The publication, citing Ukrainian sources, writes that Zelensky brought key demands to Paris: the seizure of $300 billion in Russian assets to help Ukraine and the lifting of the ban on using Western weapons beyond the Russian border zone.
There are no decisions from the West on either issue yet.
