In the territorial recruitment center in Odesa, a 29-year-old man slit his throat and wrist to avoid going to war
03.07.2024 - 19:38Ukraine and Russia have collectively lost “more than a hundred thousand killed,” including both military personnel and civilians.
This statement was made by the U.S. Ambassador to Russia, Lynne Tracy.
She mentioned that “an enormous number of people are dying on both sides. These are civilians and young soldiers who are dying or suffering horrific injuries.”
“When I look at all this, at these terrible sacrifices—more than a hundred thousand killed and hundreds of thousands injured—I ask myself: what was all this for? And I come to the conclusion that this is an absolutely unnecessary war. It is not needed by Russia, and certainly not by Ukraine,” Tracy said in an interview with RTVI.
It should be noted that these figures are significantly lower than those that have been mentioned in the public domain.
Recall that at his press conference in February, Vladimir Zelensky stated that more than 200,000 soldiers had died in Ukraine alone—31,000 Ukrainians and 180,000 Russians.
Later, Western media claimed that the president’s figures regarding the Ukrainian army were significantly underestimated.
Additionally, Russian opposition media estimated the total losses of Russian troops in Ukraine at 127,000 people as of May.
