06.09.2024 13:11The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense currently does not have the funds for combat payments to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) for September, but this is expected to be resolved.
This was stated by MP Roksolana Pidlasa, head of the parliamentary budget committee, according to the website of the Verkhovna Rada.
“The Ministry of Defense tells us that they don’t have the money to pay the military until September 20. But we will vote on changes to the state budget by September 20. I cannot name the exact date of the Verkhovna Rada session, but we expect this vote around September 17-18,” Pidlasa assured.
According to her, the funds were diverted to purchase weapons because the U.S. delayed in providing military aid packages.
“We are reducing the servicing and repayment of the national debt by 115 billion hryvnias (€2.52 billion) to cover defense expenses. We hope to raise around 216 billion hryvnias (€4.74 billion) on the domestic capital market through the issuance of government bonds. Additionally, we expect to receive about 100 billion hryvnias (€2.19 billion) from overperformance in tax collections,” the MP explained as to where the money for the payments would come from.
In July, Pidlasa warned that if taxes were not increased, the military might be left without salaries by September.
Half a month ago, MP Andriy Nikolenko mentioned that salaries for doctors or teachers in December could be redirected to pay the military in September.
