25.09.2024 - 05:32Due to the import of Ukrainian grains, prices for them in EU countries have dropped by 45%.
Unión de Uniones emphasized that the influx of Ukrainian grains has grown so much that in 2023 it amounted to nearly 8.4 million tons, and in the first half of 2024, it will reach approximately 6.5 million tons.
“More than half of the Ukrainian grains are entering the EU at increasingly lower prices,” the organization stated, calling this the determining factor for the 45% drop in grain prices for European producers since May 2022.
“Farmers are not going to sit idly by until protective measures are implemented and imported grains meet the same standards that they (the EU government) demand from us,” said Unión de Uniones coordinator Luis Cortes.
“And we will continue our protests if our demands are ignored,” added a participant in the rally.
Earlier, Spanish farmers demanded a reduction in grain imports from Ukraine.
It should be recalled that the European Union imposed tariffs on the import of Ukrainian eggs and sugar.
