“No updates on the position.” The State Department does not confirm permission for strikes on Russia
19.11.2024 06:01The foreign ministers of European Union countries have once again failed to reach an agreement on unblocking funds from the “European Peace Facility” for Ukraine.
This was stated by Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski following a meeting of the ministers. According to him, Budapest has once again vetoed the decision.
The government of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has been blocking the allocation of 6 billion euros from the European Peace Facility for nearly 1.5 years. This funding was intended to reimburse EU countries for their expenditures on supplying arms to Kyiv.
Previously, Hungary had blocked the allocation of two billion euros in European military aid because Ukraine had included the Hungarian OTP Bank on its list of “international war sponsors” and had begun creating obstacles for the pharmaceutical company Gedeon Richter, since these companies did not leave the Russian market after Russia’s invasion.
It is worth noting that Bloomberg reported that Germany and France are opposed to the EU’s plan to bypass Hungary’s veto on the allocation of 6 billion euros to Ukraine.
Earlier, it was reported that, for this purpose, the EU considered creating a separate fund that would not involve Budapest in its management.
