19.01.2025 - 16:29Forcing Ukraine into negotiations with Russia before it regains an advantage on the battlefield would have catastrophic consequences, Ukrainian officials warned ahead of Donald Trump’s inauguration.
This was reported by The Telegraph.
“Fearing that the new U.S. administration may reduce military aid if negotiations are refused, Zelensky wants to demonstrate that Ukraine first needs time and support to escalate its campaign deep into Russia,” the report said.
According to the president’s aides, if Putin is not “made to feel pain” before negotiations begin, it will embolden him, weaken Ukraine, and ultimately harm the reputation and interests of the West.
It is worth recalling that Trump’s special representative, Keith Kellogg, stated that reaching a peace agreement could take up to 100 days.
The publication notes that such a timeline has caused “deep concern” in Kyiv.
“While Russia is advancing slowly but steadily, particularly strengthening positions around the critical logistics hub of Pokrovsk, Ukrainian officials claim they are achieving significant successes far beyond the front line,” The Telegraphwrites.
Meanwhile, Mykhailo Podolyak, an advisor to the Office of the President of Ukraine, stated that it is crucial for Ukraine to receive support to force the Kremlin into negotiations “out of necessity, not by choice.”
