The new US president, Donald Trump, may completely shut down the operations of USAID, which allocated billions in grants to Ukraine. Currently, all such assistance is frozen.
This was reported by Politico.
According to the publication, USAID may eventually be integrated into the US State Department, thereby losing its independent status.
“Trump has not appointed a USAID administrator, allowing a State Department official to effectively control the agency,” the article states.
“According to two Trump administration officials familiar with the situation, the president’s team is considering the possibility of fully subordinating USAID to the State Department,” the publication writes.
It is worth recalling that in Ukraine, USAID operated 112 projects with funding totaling $7 billion. Approximately 90% of Ukrainian media outlets were funded by the United States.
