08.02.2025 19:08In Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine’s defense is “falling apart,” with the military command suffering heavy losses that have led to a chronic shortage of personnel.
This was reported by The Washington Post while commenting on the situation in Toretsk.
According to the publication, morale within the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) is low and continues to decline amid uncertainty regarding further aid from the United States.
This situation could lead to a series of lost cities that were once “part of Ukraine’s defensive line in the east.”
It is noted that the Russian army has been advancing for a year, “gradually weakening Ukrainian forces, which are experiencing shortages of manpower and resources.” Despite the apparent lull, intense Russian assault operations are ongoing.
“U.S. President Donald Trump, who claims that his priority is American interests, has stated that he wants to end the war, though his plans for securing peace remain unclear,” the article states.
Previously, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced the capture of Toretsk in Donetsk Oblast, a city that had been the site of battles since last summer.
Meanwhile, The Wall Street Journal reported that Kyiv is facing a critical shortage of infantry and is using drones to counter Russian forces. While this tactic slows the Russian advance, it does not stop it.
Additionally, the report states that Russia holds a numerical advantage on the battlefield, outnumbering Ukrainian forces by a ratio of 5 to 1, and in some areas, even 10 to 1.
