Trump has decided to tighten the terms of the resource deal with Ukraine – CBS News
05.03.2025 - 08:59The United States and Ukraine are preparing to sign a minerals agreement as early as today.
This was reported by Reuters, citing sources.
According to the agency’s sources, U.S. President Donald Trump wants to announce the signing of the agreement during his address to Congress, which is set to begin around 4:00 AM Kyiv time.
At the same time, as Reuters notes, the deal has not yet been signed, so the situation could change (meaning it is possible that nothing will be signed today).
In recent days, American officials have been in discussions with Ukrainian authorities regarding the signing of the minerals supply agreement, despite the deal falling through on Friday. They also urged advisors to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to convince him to apologize to Trump, one Reuters source said.
Today, Zelensky stated that he regrets the altercation with Trump and that he and his team are ready to “work under the strong leadership of President Trump to achieve lasting peace,” the agency noted.
However, Zelensky did not offer an apology to Trump for the dispute.
Earlier, the Ukrainian president had said that Ukraine was ready to sign the mineral resources deal and that relations with Trump would continue.
