“Europe will not create a unified army or send troops to Ukraine,” – Polish Foreign Ministry
16.02.2025 - 15:44Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky continues to intensify his crackdown on political rivals. His newly imposed personal sanctions have targeted five prominent figures, including former President Petro Poroshenko and exiled opposition leader Viktor Medvedchuk.
Publications such as Infobae (Argentina), Yeniakit (Turkey), BNN (USA), Kinhtedothi (Vietnam), and Regiaodeagueda(Portugal) emphasize that Zelensky is using sanctions as a tool to pressure the political opposition. Reports highlight that the measures include asset freezes and restrictions on media outlets linked to his opponents.
Meanwhile, Russian outlet Russia Today—which has been widely quoted by international media—has strongly criticized Zelensky’s decision, arguing that he is using sanctions to eliminate competition. Notably, Medvedchuk is presented as the primary opposition leader in exile, whereas in Western media, this role is more often attributed to Petro Poroshenko.
The situation is further complicated by Zelensky’s earlier decision to suspend elections in Ukraine, citing the ongoing war with Russia. This move has drawn mixed reactions from the international community, as it effectively blocks the possibility of a democratic transfer of power.
The growing coverage of this issue in foreign media reflects increasing global interest in Ukraine’s internal political landscape and the potential shifts in power that may unfold in the near future.
