The signed mineral resources deal will not matter much if the war in Ukraine continues – NYT
01.05.2025 16:08In the Polish city of Biała Podlaska, a supporter of presidential candidate and Member of the European Parliament Grzegorz Braun removed the Ukrainian flag from the town hall during a rally in support of the politician.
A video of the incident is being circulated by local media and social media users.
According to reports, the flag had been displayed on the building since February 2022.
In the footage, a man can be seen taking down the Ukrainian flag amid applause from the crowd and shouts of “This is Poland!” He then handed the flag to Braun himself.
According to the press, Braun stated at the rally that the Ukrainian flag had no place on the town hall of a Polish city, as “this is not Ukraine,” and said the flag would be delivered to the nearest Ukrainian consulate.
Braun then took responsibility for the incident.
“My assistant, appointed to carry out the duties of a Polish Member of the European Parliament, acted on my request and under my clear instruction. Therefore, I take full responsibility,” Braun said.
Ukrainian Ambassador to Poland, Vasyl Bodnar, responded to the incident, calling it a deliberate provocation aimed at harming relations between the two countries.
“Let us confront such provocations together and decisively. Especially during Russia’s ongoing brutal war against Ukraine, as we fight for our shared security,” the ambassador wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Polish police are currently investigating the incident, and local authorities have condemned the assistant’s actions, describing them as “an attack on a government building.”
