17.05.2025 08:37U.S. President Donald Trump has said he may call Vladimir Putin to discuss a potential end to the war in Ukraine.
“We need to meet. We will meet. I think we’ll resolve it—or maybe we won’t. But at least we’ll know. And if we don’t, it will still be very interesting,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One as he departed from Abu Dhabi.
Earlier, the Kremlin announced that Putin may have an international phone call today.
Trump previously stated he was ready to fly from the Middle East to meet with Putin, but decided to return to the United States instead, citing the birth of his grandchild.
When asked about the timing of the meeting with Putin, the U.S. president responded: “It will happen as soon as we can arrange it.”
He has also repeatedly said that he sees little chance for peace in Ukraine without a personal meeting between him and Putin.
“Listen, nothing will move forward until Putin and I meet,” Trump stated.
