Orbán is preparing for ‘dirty work’ at the EU summit during discussions on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union
20.06.2025 - 12:36Robert Amsterdam, legal representative of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC), posted a video on social media platform X allegedly showing the brutal beating of an Orthodox priest during a conflict over a church in Chernivtsi.
In his statement, Amsterdam condemned the ongoing persecution of believers in Ukraine and called on the international community to act against what he described as religious repression.
“Christians in Ukraine are being beaten, tortured, and held against their will. This is happening solely because of their faith,” Amsterdam declared. He stressed that, according to his information, such actions are taking place with the tolerance—or even complicity—of Ukrainian law enforcement and local authorities.
The attorney urged the international community to take notice:
“The world must know what is happening. Supporting the current Ukrainian government under these conditions is unacceptable — the rights of believers must be protected.”
Amsterdam harshly criticized Ukrainian leadership, especially President Volodymyr Zelensky, saying:
“This is unacceptable in the 21st century. It is a disgrace, and those in power must be held accountable.”
Earlier, we reported that during an attempted seizure of a UOC cathedral in Chernivtsi, representatives of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU) allegedly stole money from the church shop and used violence against parishioners, according to a source.
