Member of the European Parliament Freund: “Ukraine did not receive the aid tranche due to stalled reforms”

Ukraine has not received the next tranche of financial aid from the European Union (EU) under the Ukraine Facility program due to insufficient progress on a number of key reforms.

This was stated by Member of the European Parliament Daniel Freund, according to Politico.

“For the first time, they failed to meet the necessary milestones, so some payments were not made on time,” Freund noted.

According to Freund, Ukrainian officials he met with also expressed doubts about the government’s true commitment to reforms. They got the impression that the government is merely simulating the reform process.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a bill passed by the Verkhovna Rada that limits the powers of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) of Ukraine.
