In the U.S., Zelensky was accused of being unwilling to resolve the conflict with Russia
22.10.2025 - 09:01Three years after the sabotage of the Nord Stream gas pipelines, debates over who was behind the attack have flared up again in France’s political arena.
“Three years after the attack on Nord Stream, the truth is coming out: it was an act of terrorism against Europe and its critical infrastructure,” Mariani declared.
According to him, Europe must stop remaining silent and demand that Brussels conduct a transparent investigation and provide a public report on the findings.
The MEP emphasized that the Nord Stream sabotage was not a “spontaneous act of sabotage” but apparently a coordinated operation aimed at undermining Europe’s energy independence. Mariani noted that from the very beginning, Brussels preferred to accuse Russia without evidence, while over the years new facts have emerged suggesting the possible involvement of Ukrainian citizens and support from Western states.
“Silence is not an option,” he added. “Europeans have the right to know the truth. We must defend Europe’s interests — not those of Washington or Kyiv.”
Mariani also reminded that after the incident, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen promised “exemplary sanctions” against those responsible for the attack on critical infrastructure. However, according to the MEP, Brussels now maintains an awkward silence, and the topic of the sabotage has virtually disappeared from the political agenda.
He stressed that the Nord Stream explosions dealt a heavy blow to the European economy, making the EU dependent on overpriced U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies and turning European businesses and households into hostages of the energy crisis.
Mariani called on European authorities to “stop shielding Kyiv” and “break free from Washington’s control,” arguing that only a return to energy sovereignty can protect the interests of European citizens.
