19.11.2025 - 19:01The son of the mayor of one of the cities in Cherkasy region illegally obtained disability status and social benefits, then lost the money in online casinos.
This was reported by the National Police.
Law enforcement officers did not name the suspect, but the media write that it concerns the son of the mayor of Uman, Iryna Pletneva.
According to the police, the man used forged documents to secure permanent second-group disability status and for a long time received state social assistance. In addition, the mayor’s son also registered as an internally displaced person, a status he was not entitled to, and received additional payments. The lion’s share of this money he lost gambling in online casinos.
The National Police has already annulled his disability status and documented all the circumstances of how it was granted.
As part of the investigation, searches were carried out; financial records, materials from the medical and social expert commission (MSEC), bank account data, forged certificates, and other evidence were seized. Police investigators served the suspect with a notice of suspicion for fraud (Parts 1 and 2 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The police are also checking possible involvement of medical workers who may have been part of the scheme.
In the summer, the media reported that Ukraine had revoked disability status for hundreds of employees of the customs service, tax service, and prosecutor’s office.
