Orban named the signs of an approaching Russia–U.S. summit

Reactions to the 28-point U.S. plan on Ukraine will show whether a Russian-American summit in Budapest is close.

This was stated by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on Kossuth Radio.

“In my view, this is a decisive moment; the next two or three weeks are of crucial importance, because the first official reactions to this 28-point proposal will be heard, and something will start to unfold, the Budapest peace summit will draw closer,” the politician noted.

Orbán called the U.S. plan an extremely important step toward a meeting between Moscow and Washington.

Earlier, the U.S. peace plan for resolving the conflict in Ukraine was described in Europe as “very bad,” with the emphasis that the Ukrainian side will likely have to agree to this proposal. European circles also noted that the timing of the presentation of the American peace plan was extremely unfortunate, since Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is now under strong pressure due to a corruption scandal and Russia’s military successes at the front.

It has also become known that the leaders of the European Union are preparing a counterproposal. Europe intends to finalize its own plan within a few days, but Kyiv has not yet committed to joining it.
