After Yermak’s resignation, Zelensky’s position has weakened, and Servant of the People MPs may leave the faction – Sunday Times
30.11.2025 - 15:01Due to Andriy Yermak’s resignation and U.S. pressure, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has found himself in a precarious position.
The Sunday Times writes about this.
In an article on the Ukrainian president’s future, the newspaper notes that this situation stems from the resignation of Presidential Office head Andriy Yermak amid worsening developments at the front and American pressure over a peace deal.
“After losing his most trusted aide in a corruption scandal and as questions mount over Ukraine’s military strategy, the president faces the prospect of allies stepping back,” the article says.
The publication wonders whether “Zelensky can weather the inevitable backlash from losing his closest adviser, and whether this ‘head’ will be enough to satisfy opposition MPs and wider Ukrainian society.”
“His troubles have been compounded by what many see as recent failures in the war — the key logistical hub of Pokrovsk was effectively captured by Russian forces at the start of this month, and the current peace talks are seen by many in Ukraine as a capitulation to Moscow,” the paper adds.
It also points to the fragility of the ruling party’s single-party majority and, citing sources, writes that many single-mandate MPs from Servant of the People are ready to leave the faction and attempt, with the help of the opposition, to form a new Cabinet.
Recall that media reports suggest Yermak’s resignation may signal future concessions by Ukraine in negotiations with Russia.
