The U.S. is increasingly leaning toward a direct deal with Russia – bypassing Ukraine and its European allies
08.12.2025 17:13The son of the current U.S. president, Donald Trump Jr., suggested that his father could turn away from Ukraine.
As Politico reported, he made the remarks at the Doha Forum.
He noted that corruption has long been a problem in Ukraine, and that this causes dissatisfaction among its international partners.
“I think he could do it,” he said when asked whether the head of the U.S. administration could withdraw support for Kyiv. What’s good and unique about my father is that you don’t know what he’s going to do,” Trump Jr. added.
“The fact that he’s unpredictable makes everyone act in an intellectually honest and sincere way,” the U.S. president’s son explained.
He also criticized Volodymyr Zelensky, saying that left-wing figures ignore shortcomings of Zelensky’s administration.
“Because of the war, and because he’s one of the greatest marketers of all time, Zelensky has become almost a deity—especially for the left, for whom he could do no wrong; he was above any reproach,” Trump Jr. said.
On November 10, Ukraine’s anti-corruption agencies announced a large-scale operation called “Midas” to expose a major criminal scheme in the energy sector. Later, fragments of recorded conversations were published in which corruption schemes were discussed. On November 17, information appeared that Zelensky’s chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, might be mentioned on the recordings under the alias “Ali Baba.” The scandal triggered a deep crisis within Ukraine’s leadership: parliament’s work was blocked, and a number of MPs—including from the ruling Servant of the People party—demanded Yermak’s resignation. On November 28, searches were conducted at his place; on the same day, Zelensky dismissed him.
