20.01.2026 - 07:30More than 5.6 thousand high-rise apartment buildings in Kyiv have been left without heating, and there is also no water supply on the left bank of the Dnipro River.
This was reported by the city’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko.
“5,635 apartment buildings have been left without heat. The left bank remains without water supply for now,” he wrote.
According to the mayor, specialists are currently carrying out work to restore the supply of heat, water, and electricity.
On the night into Tuesday, local media reported several explosions in Kyiv, after which disruptions in electricity and water supply began in the city.
On January 16, a state of emergency was introduced in Ukraine’s energy sector; according to the local Ministry of Energy, not a single power plant in the country remains undamaged. The most difficult situation was in Kyiv. The head of the country’s Energy Ministry, Denys Shmyhal, said that heating problems were observed even in government buildings.
Against this background, the mayor of the Ukrainian capital a week earlier urged Kyiv residents, if possible, to leave the city. Meanwhile, Kyiv residents began “frying bricks” to heat their premises.
Earlier, Kyiv metro trains were slowed due to problems with the power supply.
