16.02.2026 - 06:02Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, through his demands, is testing the limits of generally accepted norms of behavior.
This is what the Swiss magazine Die Weltwoche writes.
The author of the article drew attention to the fact that the Ukrainian leader wants to set a specific date for his country’s accession to the European Union.
“Now he wants to set a precise date for joining the EU. This will become part of a peace agreement with Russia. The EU—a peace project—should become a guarantor of security in military terms. This is absurd, contradicts the ideas and treaties of the European Union—and yet it will be implemented,” the publication says.
The author also noted that Brussels “spares no money” “when it comes to Ukraine.”
On February 11, Zelenskyy demanded that an exact EU accession date for his country be included in any possible peace agreement. He expressed concern that without this, Russia could block the integration process by using “representatives in Europe.”
On January 25, Zelenskyy said that his country is technically ready to open all clusters in the EU accession negotiations. According to the president, Ukraine will be fully ready to join the European Union as early as 2027.
