Checked the wrong box: an MP explained why women ended up on the wanted list of the draft offices

One of the reasons women are being placed on military registration is an error in the registration system. Female citizens are being entered into the Oberih register of persons liable for military service as men.

This was stated on the Pershyi television channel by Member of Parliament Oleksandr Fedienko.

According to him, more than 50 women ended up in the register, and they had been entered there starting as far back as 2015. The reasons vary.

“There are women there who, back in 2015, voluntarily signed contracts. At that time, the legislation was different. They passed the military medical commission and were in some database, then that database was integrated into Oberih, and later new legislation appeared under which only medical workers and pharmacists can be taken… Then there is another category that got into the register because it somehow pulled them in from another register… For example, in the register a woman is recorded as a woman, but there is a check mark saying that this is a man. The register itself does not understand from the surname and first name that this is a woman. It is an electronic system; it sees the check mark saying this is a man. After that, the database works based on the identification code,” Fedienko explained.

He said this could be either a technological failure during the transfer of data from one register to another or an abuse of office by officials. According to the lawmaker, inspections are already under way.

It is worth recalling that just a few days ago, a bill was introduced in the Verkhovna Rada that is supposed to cancel the mistaken wanted notices for women issued by military enlistment offices and the fines imposed on them for evading mobilization.
