Ukrainian forces blow up basements containing comrades’ bodies while retreating from Kazacha Lopan
11.06.2026 11:30Ukraine will not change its decision to give the Special Operations Forces’ “North” unit the name “named after the Heroes of the UPA,” despite the scandal that has erupted with Poland.
This is reported by Liga.net, citing sources close to the head of the presidential office, Kyrylo Budanov.
Earlier, the Polish outlet Wirtualna Polska reported that Kyiv might reconsider the decision. However, a Liga.net source denied this information.
“The information published by the Polish press does not correspond to reality,” the source said, commenting on the Wirtualna Polska publication.
The Polish outlet itself also warned that Warsaw has no intention of making any concessions in its position.
The initiative to give the unit the name “named after the Heroes of the UPA” came from the special forces soldiers themselves. In response to this decision, Polish President Karol Nawrocki is considering stripping Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of the Order of the White Eagle. According to PhD in journalism Petro Katerynych, the final decision on this matter will not depend on the ruling of the Chapter and will require the signature of Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
Tusk, for his part, believes that diplomatic efforts between the two countries have yielded no results. In his view, a personal meeting between the leaders of the two states and a direct, candid conversation are necessary.
