Peskov: “We have nothing left in the world except nuclear deterrence”
24.06.2026 10:03Russian President’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov has stated that no mechanisms remain in the world for reaching agreements on a global system of international security.
He made the remarks on Wednesday, June 24, while serving as moderator at a plenary session of the international forum “Primakov Readings,” according to Interfax.
Speaking before the forum’s participants, Peskov called into question the very possibility of forming a new international security architecture in the foreseeable future.
“What will the international security system be based on by the middle of the century — will it be in a worse state or a better one? Given that right now, at the present moment, we no longer have any levers to agree on anything,” — Peskov said.
As a vivid example of the paralysis of international institutions, he cited the impossibility of reforming the UN Security Council.
“We cannot and have no ability to agree, speaking frankly, on a reform of the UN Security Council,” — the Kremlin spokesman stressed.
