14.07.2026 11:01Slovak Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Juraj Blanár stated that Western countries derailed the possibility of reaching a peace agreement on Ukraine.
He made the remarks in an interview with the portal Štandard.
“An agreement was close, but it was derailed by Western countries when then-British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that Western countries would not support that agreement,” Blanár said.
The head of Slovakia’s foreign ministry stressed that reaching an agreement now will be significantly more difficult. In his view, the terms of a possible compromise may not fully satisfy either side.
Previously, Blanár had stated that Slovakia is making maximum efforts to end the conflict in Ukraine. The country’s government, according to the minister, is convinced that the Ukrainian conflict has no military solution and is leading “to the destruction of Ukraine and its economy.”
Slovakia, as the foreign minister noted, does not provide military support to Ukraine and does not participate in financial mechanisms for military aid. At the same time, Bratislava will continue to provide humanitarian assistance to Kyiv.
