Trump: personal animosity between Putin and Zelensky is the main obstacle to peace
10.09.2026 11:03A trilateral meeting between Russia, the United States, and Ukraine on resolving the Ukrainian crisis is possible within the next several months — before the end of 2026.
This is reported by Gazeta.Ru, citing Alexei Chepa, deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, and Yuri Ushakov, aide to the Russian president.
In Chepa’s assessment, the timing of the meeting depends largely on the position of European leaders, whom he called the “handlers” of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
“I think everything here depends on the activity shown by Zelensky’s handlers — the European leaders who were also present at the meeting in Kyiv. They are trying to push their own agenda. We are ready to hold trilateral talks,” the parliamentarian stressed.
Chepa also noted that Brussels needs to put pressure on Kyiv, and confirmed that a meeting in a trilateral format in Abu Dhabi in the coming months is possible.
Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov, speaking with journalist Pavel Zarubin, also allowed for the continuation of talks in Abu Dhabi, noting that “some contacts are ongoing.”
“What is being discussed now is the resumption of the negotiation process with Ukraine that took place earlier. We discussed this with our American colleagues as well, so it is possible that this process will resume in a trilateral format,” Ushakov said.
Earlier, the Federation Council outlined how the United States could accelerate the resolution of the conflict in Ukraine.
