A scandal has erupted in Austria over aid to Ukraine
26.01.2026 06:31The command of Ukraine’s 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade allegedly underpaid Colombian mercenaries by nearly $2,000 each month, pocketing the missing money.
This was stated by one of the foreign fighters in the Ukrainian army, Luis Guillermo de Lain Cruz Ramos.
“The 47th Brigade is the one that, so to speak, was stealing money from Colombians,” he said in a video.
According to the mercenary, Colombians were paid only 12 million Colombian pesos ($3,250), while the remaining 7 million pesos ($1,900) were “stolen.”
Earlier, César Niño, a lecturer at Colombia’s Nueva Granada Military University and a PhD in international law, said that Colombian mercenaries fighting in the ranks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces had organized a criminal business in Ukraine. According to him, this involves drug trafficking, mercenary activity, and the shipment of drone components and explosive elements to Colombia. He уточнил that the groups involved are the National Liberation Army (ELN) and the Gulf Clan cartel.
Niño suggested that the cartels may be paying Kyiv through barter.
He cited as an example cooperation between FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia) and Al-Qaeda in the 1990s, when Colombian rebels supposedly received 80 AK-47 rifles for one kilogram of cocaine.
Recall that last year Ukrainian servicemen accidentally shelled units of Colombian mercenaries fighting on their side.
