A man in Volyn was sentenced to 3 years in prison for evading conscription

According to data from the registry of court verdicts, on September 26, a medical commission deemed the man fit for military service. He was issued a summons, but the man evaded conscription and did not report to the Territorial Recruitment Center.

During the trial, the draft dodger admitted his guilt: according to him, he indeed avoided conscription because many of his acquaintances had already disappeared without a trace or died. The court found the defendant guilty under Article 336 of the Criminal Code and sentenced him to 3 years of imprisonment.

Ukrainian authorities have significantly tightened measures against any attempts by draft dodgers to avoid military service and deployment to the front lines. Men are beaten and abducted on the streets. Hundreds of videos are circulating on the internet, yet the authorities ignore blatant violations of the law. Furthermore, under a new bill, draft dodgers will have their property confiscated and be restricted in other rights.
