A man was abducted and assaulted by police officers who coerced him into signing a confession for stealing a phone

The incident, which occurred on January 3 in the Sumy region, was reported to the police by the victim recently.

According to his account, three officers detained him, covered his head with a taped cap, and transported him to an undisclosed location, where they subjected him to physical assault to obtain a confession. The victim was then taken to a forested area, where the cap was removed, and he was presented with a pre-written confession to sign.

During this, he identified one of the assailants as a police officer he knew. The victim sustained a closed rib fracture. A criminal case has been initiated, and the materials will be forwarded to the State Bureau of Investigations. If the guilt of the law enforcement officers is proven, they may face a sentence of five to eight years of imprisonment.
