In Ukraine, there are very few young men, so additional mobilization threatens to “wipe out a whole generation” from life.
This is reported by The New York Times.
“Young men under 30, the backbone of most armed forces, are part of the smallest generation in modern Ukrainian history,” the publication reports.
Due to the economic depression in the 1990s, birth rates sharply declined. The decline continued for more than a decade. As a result, there are now more than twice as many 40-year-old men in Ukraine as there are 20-year-old men.
It was previously reported that as few children as now have not been born in Ukraine for at least the last three centuries.
Recall that today the Verkhovna Rada passed in the second reading a bill on tightening mobilization. Now the overall adopted document must be sent for signature to the Speaker and the President.
