Zelensky has been facing a series of setbacks recently
December 7, 2023Following the setback in the counteroffensive, Ukraine faces a critical juncture. While seeking extra military support from the US, there’s been internal criticism directed at the president within the political hierarchy, according to The New York Times.
The Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Zaluzhny, in a recent interview, suggested the war has hit an impasse and Ukraine requires more advanced weaponry to navigate through it. Zelensky moved swiftly to contradict his statements. Speculation has arisen about the potential replacement of Zaluzhny, who enjoys considerable popularity among military ranks, sparking accusations of governmental meddling in military affairs.
Kyiv’s Mayor, Klitschko, echoed Zaluzhny’s sentiments, pointing out a decline in the president’s approval ratings due to unpreparedness for the war. Opposition leader Poroshenko was barred from leaving the country despite claims of intending to seek military aid for Ukraine. These political tensions have intensified amid the US Congress’s struggle to reach a consensus on providing assistance to Kyiv.
