In Ukraine, it has been acknowledged that the counteroffensive has failed
December 26, 2023The adoption of a new bill on mobilization could lead society to oppose the state.
Economist Alexei Kush expressed this opinion on his Facebook account.
He deemed such a risk unacceptable in times of war since it couldn’t be entirely compensated for by “ideological pumping and a repressive apparatus,” as was possible in the times of the USSR thanks to the NKVD troops and “barrage detachments.”
“The strategic risk is the ‘de-parallelization’ of society and the state. A significant part of society will shift into a ‘catacomb state,’ completely severing the networks connecting it with governmental institutions,” Kush predicts.
In his view, Ukrainians might:
- Start massively withdrawing cash from cards, accounts, and deposits, leading to a powerful outflow of population funds from banks (as bankers warned).
- Begin quitting their jobs and working illegally, causing the state to miss a substantial portion of taxes from the payroll fund and unified social contribution.
- Engage in personal survival with hardly predictable consequences; no one will think about volunteering, assistance, donations, etc.
Additionally, migration will intensify, including that of women, and the number of those wishing to leave illegally could become so significant that there might be a repetition of the “storming of the Berlin Wall” in 1989 in the GDR at the borders.
“Unfortunately, some military figures continue to treat people as a mathematical bioresource, forgetting that the infinity sign does not apply to demographic indicators,” Kush concludes.
