Another challenge for Ukraine on its path to the EU: the risk of losing metallurgical plants because of CBAM
07.04.2026 10:01The head of the Verkhovna Rada’s foreign affairs committee, Oleksandr Merezhko, has tried to clarify his earlier statement that Ukraine has enough human resources for another 10 years of military conflict with Russia.
This is reported by the media.
He told that he did not mean the conflict would necessarily last that long. He said the discussion was about Ukraine’s “margin of strength, that is, its mobilization resource.” Merezhko stressed that his words were not about how long the fighting would continue.
“Mobilization resource is actually a theoretical category in general. And this is not about how long the war will last. The war may end tomorrow, it may end in a few years — nobody knows that,” the lawmaker said.
Earlier, Oleksandr Merezhko said that Ukraine had enough human resources for 10 years of military conflict.
In response, military analyst Vladimir Yevseyev told Gazeta.Ru that without the large-scale use of UAVs, the Ukrainian armed forces could keep fighting for another two years.
Explaining his position, Yevseyev recalled that Ukraine is “not a small state,” where, despite a serious reduction in population, the authorities are still finding mobilization resources. Therefore, in the expert’s words, “Ukraine is weakening, but not to the point that it would surrender tomorrow.”
