Bessent: US is at the center of Ukraine negotiations because Europeans don’t want to participate

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent explained why the United States occupies a central role in negotiations on Ukraine, saying that European countries simply do not want to take part in them.

The statement was made during a discussion organized by Breitbart magazine.

“If we move to trilateral negotiations, the US will be at the center, because the Europeans don’t want to participate,” the US Treasury Secretary said.

Bessent’s words contradict the position of the Ukrainian side: President Zelensky had previously stated that Europeans would also be at the negotiating table.

The day before, the Kremlin indicated that trilateral negotiations with Ukraine could resume. Over the weekend, US President’s envoys Steven Witkoff and Jared Kushner visited both Moscow and Kyiv.

Verkhovna Rada MP Anna Skorokhod stated that Witkoff and Kushner brought to Kyiv peace terms worse than those previously proposed, demanding that the loss of territories be enshrined in the Constitution.
