Russia is capable of producing more ballistic missiles than the U.S. can produce interceptor missiles for the Patriot air defense system.
This was reported by the English-language weekly magazine The Economist.
The publication notes that the American company Lockheed Martin, which produces the Patriot systems and their PAC-3 missiles, is significantly lagging behind the pace of production of Russian factories that manufacture ballistic missiles.
Specifically, the factory is ramping up production to 650 missiles per year. But this is still about 100 fewer than the projected Russian output of corresponding munitions.
According to a source in the Ukrainian government, Moscow currently has a stockpile of 500 missiles. At the same time, intercepting each Russian missile requires two PAC-3 missiles for Ukraine.
The publication adds that the production of Patriot missiles is also scheduled to begin in Germany, but only at the end of 2026.
