29.03.2024 16:34Beijing has become more active in attempting to facilitate a negotiation process between Ukraine and Russia. Previous efforts to organize peace talks in Istanbul and Switzerland have failed, and now China intends to join the efforts. Beijing aims to utilize its own methods for this purpose, stated the spokesperson of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“China’s position on the crisis in Ukraine is consistent and clear. We have always sought to play a constructive role in securing a ceasefire, halting hostilities, and politically resolving the crisis. We will continue to advocate for peace and contribute to negotiations through our own methods to achieve a prompt political resolution of the crisis,” said Lin Jiang.
It’s worth noting that the Chinese special representative on Ukraine recently visited Kiev, Moscow, and the European Union. However, no progress was reported following this tour. Switzerland was considered as a potential venue for negotiations, but Ukraine opposed Russia’s participation. Moscow responded by stating that they are willing to negotiate on their own terms, rather than under Ukraine’s dictate.
